Story Submission by Jason, Age 28

Having depression is an endless personal battle for me. Some mornings I would wake up blank with no purpose, some days I’d wake up feeling on top of the world feeling I can accomplish anything and everything, or some days I’d wake up full of energy and on top of the world. But most mornings I wake up tired from fighting my demons during the night. No matter what every morning I would always put on my mask and pretend everything was OK.

One morning I come to realisation that we were all given a voice for a reason and that is to speak. I reached out to friends and family for help and support; no one knew what I was dealing with behind closed doors because I had my mask on everyday. From then on I didn’t have to fight my demons alone. Speaking out and seeking help was the best thing I’ve done.

Simple gestures like “How are you?”, “Are you OK?”, “How are you feeling?”, “Good morning,” “Good evening,” and “Good night” can brighten up someone’s day. Try it sometime.

Going for a random drive on open roads with no destination would always clear my mind, and give me a sense of feeling that everything would be OK; that I don’t have wear my mask anymore I’m actually happy.

A modified car is an extension of your personality – no one person is the same. Some people love the sense of achievement for beating their personal best time at a track, some people love the achievement from the internet. Some just see it as just a car. At the end of the day it’s what puts a smile on your face that is what matters.

Stay individual and do what you think is right for you and your car, not what the internet and other people think. I never understood how people are always quick to judge on you and your car; we are all individuals and a part of the same community.
