The year was 2016: one that I’ll never forget. I had been told to say goodbye to my sister after a serious accident, my best friend committed suicide, I left a super abusive relationship and had to do multiple tests for cancer.

I had never felt so alone and invalid in my life.

It was my 21st birthday and I wanted to do nothing. I remembered a story my dad told me: that he bought his dream car when he was 21.

I decided to browse the web and came across a car I fell in love with. I bought it the next day and took it for my first car meet that night. I came across a few good people who had Cars For Hope stickers. I don’t tell people why I bought my car but I call it my beautiful distraction.

I’ve met many car guys through this group and offer rides to those who need the space and time to get away. It eases my anxiety and a simple drive makes the biggest difference.

It is one of the best ways to meet people going through a rough time and who can relate to your situation.

Don’t be afraid to talk about it. It helps a lot.
