Story Submission by Brendan, Age 20

I have been walking through a dark tunnel for most of my life and I am yet to find an exit.

Analogically speaking, I am lighting up candles (hopes and decisions) as I walk through this unforgiving journey within the dark tunnel. However, I found the purpose of my life a few years ago and now I can manage to see “light” at the other end of the tunnel but I do not know how long it will take for me to get there.

Currently, I am officially diagnosed with Tourette’s Syndrome, Obsessessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and Attention-Deficit Disorder (ADD).

Approximately every 2 to 3 months, these 3 neurological disorders synchronise, hence leading to severe medical episodes further triggering my anxieties.

Fortunately, I was introduced to Cars for Hope through noticeable stickers on the windows and windscreens of various cars out there. Though, perhaps there is one reason that allows me to have such a strong connection towards Cars For Hope; we want to raise awareness about mental health in society.

My sole intention in supporting Cars For Hope is to play a role in this community to comfort those who suffer from any mental health concerns: assuring them that they are not alone and I understand. We understand. Everything happens for a reason and every individual is the unique in their own way. Remember, nobody is perfect.
